Programs
The doctorate is a professional research experience, an intellectual and human adventure, where each thesis contributes to the edifice of knowledge and contributes to progress in society, for humanity and the planet. Demanding and transformative, this experience opens up a variety of perspectives, whether in research or in other fields, for meaningful careers and professions. INSA Lyon has 602 doctoral students, 40.8% of whom are international. PhD students are key drivers of innovation in all spheres of society, and are crucial actors in facing the challenges of a constantly changing world. This is why the day chosen on 13 May as the European Doctoral Day would make it possible to affirm the importance of doctoral training as well as that of doctoral students throughout Europe.
At INSA Lyon, we believe that this day is important in order to highlight doctoral training, which is why FEDORA is offering an open day in order to welcome INSA Lyon engineering students from the different specialty departments interested in pursuing a PhD. The target audience includes master’s students of INSA and those who are enrolled in the various research courses, or from another higher education institution in Lyon or elsewhere, wishing to pursue a doctorate.
At the INSA Lyon, we think that this is an important day for putting the lights on the doctoral formation. That’s why FEDORA proposes an open day aimed at welcoming young INSA’s engineering students of the different departments interested in pursuing a PhD. The target audience includes INSA PhD candidates and those from partner institutions in Lyon or anywhere else whishing to realize a thesis.
The programme would start with a conference held by a renowned researcher invited for the occasion, followed by testimonies from doctoral students, particularly from the European community (representing 66% of our doctoral students), round tables on topics such as the doctorate in Europe, international mobility, co-supervision or research pathways. Finally, the issue of international Master's degrees as a lever of attractiveness for training by and research for thesis pursuit in the 24 laboratories of excellence of INSA LYON will be addressed. Other workshops could address the preparation of European projects (Horizon Europe, MSCA, ERC), open science, but also themes such as ethics or valorization as well as innovation. This day would end with an exchange bringing together graduate students, doctoral students, researchers, and the various actors of the doctorate at INSA LYON to allow everyone to expand their professional network or simply to exchange between these different environments.
To sum up, the aim of this day is to offer an overview of the doctoral world and all the doors it opens, to inspire students, both European and international, to contribute to the research that is so important in today's society. Finally, it is a question of affirming our support for students who have embarked on scientific careers and of recognising the talents that help us prepare for the future.
