Ph.D.

Expert missions

Expert missions are part of the complementary activities to the preparation of the Ph.D.. They consist of a work performed for a company, outside the scope of the research work of the thesis. According to the Ministerial Order of 31 July 2009, its cumulative annual duration must be less than one sixth of the actual annual working time (i.e. 32 days).

In INSA Lyon, for a PhD student wishing to set up an expert mission, and after having previously identified a company and obtained its approval, the process is as follows:

  • Pedagogical authorization: the doctoral student, after approval of his/her Ph.D. supervisor, contacts the FEDORA department. The latter sends a pedagogical document to be filled to collect the information of the mission (purpose, duration, etc.) and the opinions of the different parties (thesis direction, Unit direction, Doctoral School).
  • Implementation of a tripartite agreement: if the pedagogical authorization is given, a tripartite agreement between the doctoral student, the Institution and the company is set up, detailing the financial terms and conditions for the accomplishment of the mission.
